Outcomes for Aging-Out Foster Youth

The experience of most young adults labeled “aging out foster youth” has received some attention in the last few years but certainly not enough. Once youth in foster care reach 18 they are, in most cases, considered ‘on their own.’ After a childhood experiencing abuse and neglect and constant transition from one foster home to another they are placed on their own with virtually no resources, family or caring adults to assist them in their journey to independence.

Single Father Case Study

CDI’s program in downtown Pittsburgh serves men throughout Allegheny County needing our assistance with the appropriate clothing for their upcoming job interview and uniforms or professional dress to begin work. Our clients do not have the resources to purchase clothing. Without our help employment would not be possible. Many of our clients have returned to thank us and tell us of their success on the job. Our client, James, is an example of the positive results that come from our services.
