Retail, Marketing and Website Design Experience
The term community service, often brings the image of manual labor or difficult, less-fulfilling tasks to mind. Our programs have found a way for individuals to use their knowledge of the community, engagement with their family and friends and put it into action in community service positions.
At the PA WorkWear Programs located in Pittsburgh and Chester Pennsylvania community service volunteers gain valuable retail experience including:
- managing inventory systems
- processing incoming goods
- window dressing / merchandise photography
- retail customer service
- website management
- on-line service delivery
Our tiered training approach allows volunteers to graduate in skills and knowledge through their community service internship. The majority of our volunteers are participants of the Centralized Training Program through the State of Pennsylvania's EARN Program that provides employment and training services to individuals in Welfare-to-Work Programs.
The Family Literacy Program offers community service opportunities that build individual's skills in the area of early childhood literacy and child guidance. Community service volunteers are provided classroom learning to gain information regarding the principles of early childhood literacy. As individuals progress in the program they learn to create lesson plans and facilitate learning activities for 1-5 year-old children. Our community service volunteers are helping the community at the same time they are gaining skills to become better educators and caregivers in their own home.
Our collaboration with Michigan Works! JET Contractors has allowed us to offer these opportunities on-site, increasing retention through accessibility.
